Quick question. Just put 200+ rounds through the 1911. Couple oddities. First, I SWEAR I can feel the slide go back and then forward. Like it takes forever. Second, Every so often I got hit with metal shavings, like alot and I could see them flying through the air and they would cover my arms. Gun shows no odd wear. Could it be ammo related? I was shooting Hydra shok and Gold dot.

Thoughts from you 1911 gurus?

Sure you could feel the slide go back & forth...was it lubed up real good...or was it sort of lubed & the oil burnt off...what oil do you use, I've switched over to SlIp 2000 and have noticed a marked improvement in the 1911...Mags might also be slowing things down, any unusual rubbing/marks where the bullet hits the feed ramp...is the slide hitting the mags strange...marks...does it also do that with different mags of a different brand/style..

It also could be related to what condition the spring is in, it is new/old, lots of rounds through it? A stiff spring slows things down...and shoves the slide forward harder/faster..

Was it metal shavings, or unburnt powder? I've never seen metal shavings come off of ammo..but have seen unburnt powder...if you inspected the pistol, don't see any shiny spots, spots where metal shavings could have flaked off from or no other obvious source of damage I'd try a different ammo & see what happens...Could it be lead fragments...shavings off the bullet's jackets???

Brass colored shavings. Plenty of oil.

Heck if I know...might be shavings off of the bullets, did you look at the brass & see if they had any shavings removed or other marks that would indicate something is scraping off some of the case?

Go to http://forums.1911forum.com join and ask there, chances are it's come up there before...

I feel the same way about my 1st Gen, even though I know the commonrail is a better truck. :w2:

RSWORDS 08-11-2011 09:39 AM

I own a 1st and 3rd gen. I like to drive the 1st gen more, feels like a real truck.

I just have a better point of aim with the glocks. Like i said the 1911 is a good gun and i definatly see how so many people love it. I wont ever sell it because I do like shooting it but my glock works better for me.

RSWORDS 08-21-2011 11:54 AM

Why is that? I like these, they are a tad thinner, they have great grip, and they look mean. :D

If I wanted my 1911 to look like everyone elses I would have bought some wilson grips... :U:
