Thats why new converted s12's sell for $1,000. I'm not saying his stuff is bad, Its very well made and is possibly the best. Beats buying a bottom barrel gun some minimum wage idiot put together. But you can build one as good as his yourself for less, I understand that things like overhead, wages and profit will always drive up prices.... But $1,200 mark up is a little much I think.

I have experience with a Century SAR-1, the predecessor to the WASR-10. The ATF pulled the plug on the SAR-1 being imported because it was a good rifle.
Basically, the SAR-1 is everything the WASR wishes it was. I can attest to the canted sights and wobbly mag in the WASR (my buddy had one) but it went bang every time the trigger was pulled.
The WASR actually uses a single-stack mag when it's made. Century then hogs-out the mag well to accommodate the much more common double-stack mags, which is where the wobble comes from.
Look on Century's website. Century International Arms They offer MANY more choices other than the wasr. The other models will cost a bit more then a WASR-10 but are a better rifle.

I'm willing to put a little work into something if it means getting it cheaper. If I had a bigger budget for this right now, I'd be going AR shopping, not AK shopping. I really want an AR but I want to build it piece by piece so that's a long ways down the road.
I know Century offers a 100% US made AK that they call the Centurion 39. They say it has absolutely no imported parts and it comes with 2 Tapco 30 rounders. Its got a milled receiver, hi-vis front sight post, longer buttstock, and the fore grip has molded in Picatinny rails. No idea what the price tag on it is though.
Sure Krebs are nice but about the only thing I like on them is the safety lever mod he puts on. I can buy most of the other parts and put them on myself, not the same quality, but still... For the price, I'd buy an AR.
Like I said, I'm planning on going to a gun show next weekend. I called my gun shop today and they quoted for a standard WASR 10 with wood furniture started at $470!
$500 after taxes.Think I can find one cheaper than that at the gun show? Or if that's the general price for them now, what's a better AK option for about the same price? The number of variants out there boggle my mind and I can't keep straight what's what except that WASRs are bottom of the barrel and Arsenals and Krebs are about the top of the line.

The problem I have with buying guns online(at least ones I'm looking at right now) is that I can't handle the guns and hand pick the one I want. I could've bought my Mosin 91/30 online for like $70, but I wanted to personally check it out so I went to the gun store and paid $100. Same thing with these WASRs. I want to hand pick it because of the possible issues with them. If I was shopping for a brand new AR or something like that, then yeah, I'd probably buy online and deal with shipping and FFL transfer.
