Another good option for close range might be the new judge polymer, its lite not to big and packs a punch up close but wont go through and through. PDX is a good round for it.

Para ordinance pxt warthog is by far my favorite to shoot and conceal. It's a sub compact 1911 that still carries .45acp 6+1!! love it!! Oh and it looks bad to boot!

minimum caliber ya want is a 38spl & a 9mm is better

One thing to keep in mind also to the OP for a sub comp or a comp auto is some have a tendency to misfire due to the shorter and smaller firing pins. You might want to check certain models before making a purchase just to make sure its not one of them, I know the Taurus millennium has that problem.
