this is just my opinion,

when i buy a diesel, mileage no longer plays the important part of the buying decision as it would have with a gas engine.....

i also assume no matter what used truck i buy, that the vehicle will require at lest 10 to 20% of the original cost in additional repairs to get it to meet my standards..... example an 8K vehical may need another 2K spent on it.....
sometimes the best deals involve the worst looking trucks.....
trucks that are in mint condition almost always demand a higher price than i'm willing to pay.....

click Million-Mile Engine

i like ebay, craigslist, and buying area newspapers with internet classifieds.....

I do like second gens. Drove a worn out '96 yesterday, in BAD shape. Im also looking for a truck w/around 200k miles on it. The cummins will make a million but the rest of the truck rarely will.

Maj, reason i wasnt really interested is that i dont like SRW 2wd trucks, dont like the way they look. If i get a 2wd itll be a dually, otherwise its 4x4 or nothin. Im not gonna settle on a truck, either i like it or not, either itll work for me or not. Im not gonna get in a hurry to find a truck, ill get what i want eventually.

wyoranch,
sounds to me, like you know what your doing.....
and know what you want......
just don't be afraid of high miles,
the junk yards and ebay can help with some of the worn out body parts....

be patient, it took me 3 months to find my diamond in the rough....
after the repairs i got exactly what i wanted.... and saved a bundle to boot.

hmm, we pay taxes when we go to register the vehicle.
so if it's not registered we don't pay.
if a used car sales registered every car they had on the lot they would be broke.
also they base it on the price it was sold to you for. not book value
some people do inherit cars/trucks. and some do buy a car for $100 as a project fix it and drive it.

That used to be true, but they changed it, at least in Wilson County Texas. Now you pay taxes on what they say its worth. The truck im about to post the pics of, ill end up payin about $1000 registration on.

He'd already have cash in hand if i could get it that cheap. Id drive to your neck of the woods to buy one if a first gen this clean goes for that cheap.

Remember, truck cleans up real nice. Its dirty, hasent been washed in a while.

I would offer him $9500 and go from there. I would not give more then $10K for it though. Nice looking rig but I have seen much nicer trucks go cheaper then $10K.
