Here is my wood

As you can see it's quite a bit darker than without the stain, I think it will be a great contrast with the natural colored pieces in there.

Will start tearing the front end apart tomorrow, possibly get the fuel pin and governor spring in, and if time allows, will be getting started on the valve springs.

Well, it's almost noon and I haven't touched the truck yet. So, late start may have been an understatement. Ran some errands, now dad has to take a 2.5 hour round trip to repossess his trailer from my brother so we can take the bed off the truck to blast it.

While he is gone, I am going to try to get this fuel pin and governor spring in, as well as finish staining the underside of the bed wood. Wonder if I can get the pump done in 2.5 hours?

Once the trailer is back, we'll see how much time we have left once getting the bed off the truck. If there is enough time, I may blast it tonight.

Front end destruction will have to wait until I get money to buy the U-Joints and other things that need replaced.

So... I have A.D.D. and started working on the front roll pan...

First I made a wood template of the shape I want the roll pan to turn out like. I drilled a hole to slide the 1/4" rod through. Then I bent the rod to the shape of the template. This worked really well:

After I got a couple of those bent, I started making the framework to roll the steel over. I will need to make 2 of these the same length, then each one will pitch out with the angle of the grille on the front and I will fill the center part of it with steel and smooth it over with bondo.

Well, my theory has always been that it all has to get done, so does it matter where ya start? That pan is gonna be interesting to see come together

That's true... I think I am saving the fuel mods for a cooler day. Instead I am welding (which makes less sense). I think the roll pan will come out great. Picked up these tips from a body guy friend of mine who did a full wide body kit on his car with metal. This is the way he made the fenders.

And, since I am taking a break from the heat, I went to go get the steel for the min-headache rack that I am going to make for the front of the bed. I wanted something that didn't look like a pieced together block of steel, so I got creative. I am using 1.75x1.75 1/8" wall square tubing to make the headache rack.

My creativity got me this odd looking straight piece of tubing:

Then I cranked on it to get the right curvature:

It curves a little more than the body line, which is exactly how I wanted it, so you cannot see it from the front of the truck. Should turn out pretty dang sweet. My plan is to build this headache bar and put a spare tire holder on it so I can buy another wheel and tire to have a full size spare. Should round out the bed pretty damn good.

Now back to working on that roll pan framework!

The trucks lookin good bud! Real unique and I like it!!! Just throwing this out there but have you ever seen any truck beds from CM? They build them here in my home town and they are awsome they build them with no weld seams and powdercoat them the color of your choice and put LED's you should look them up just CM Truck Beds. I'm putting a Skirted one on my 92 I'm in the middle of rebuilding from ground up. And i'm fixin to pull my 91.5 in the shop and repaint it and i'm puttin a wood bed floor in it.

But anywho the trucks lookin good bud!

Why would I look at them when I can do the same damn thing for 1/2 the price and 1000x more satisfaction? I ain't even half done with this bed. When it's done, you can tell that company to look me up for advice.

Today I am focusing on getting the headache rack completed. With this arises the issue of how/where I want to mount the spare tire, and the yet unaddressed issue of the fuel filler neck.

First I got the top bar all mocked up and centered.

I got that all figured out and started making the bracing for the tire carrier. I will weld a plate on the end of that and drill holes to weld on some bolts. Overall, I think it will hold alright (I hope!):

I have some ideas for the fuel filler, but that will require me to get some tubing and bust out the TIG welder. Not ready for that yet, though.

Whipped out the new TIG welder tonight, since I ran out of a few things and has the time.

It's the Eastwood 200amp TIG, and honestly, it does pretty darn good! I laid down the same quality beads (after I polished my rust up a bit) as the $5k Lincoln machine I used in school.

And, with it I finished up my intake horn. I had to use the cast 90 to clear the hood. Turned out pretty well, I guess. This is just a temporary fix until I can get more tubing and some time to get a solid piece (and better looking piece) done up.

Now that I have a TIG, I will be able to do a whole lot more/different projects, when time allows. I am considering doing a tubular manifold for the Cummins, and a couple of projects for my mustang
