CATastrophe on a Cat 3516 Marine Diesel
[QUOTE=whiskyBound;346885]what Ci and numbers does a cat that big put down? Considering some of the guys here have their 5.9's putting down Kenworth type HP and torque figures I'm a little curious and ya have any pictures of the ship that thing powers?[/QUOTE
If I remember right the Cat 3516C marines engines are made to run 1600-1800 rpm( so they are a lower rpm application than the 5.9 Cummins) and produce 120-160 hp per cylinder. It has been A while since I have looked any of the paper work from the dynos but it seems like thats in the neighborhood I remember,

i recall 3516C being putting out 187hp per cylinder & being 4210 Ci
~3000hp rating @ 1650rpm
*edit*
Sorry, 3000hp is rated for a marine engine that has been modified in a big trawler here in Iceland
OEM is 2,350 bhp

nice pics been a while since i have seen carnage that bad. hate to see the repair bill on that particular engine, we had a few 3508 powered 777 haul trucks and the repair bills were quite high when the engine had issues.
Hey Chief... I've seen way too many tips blown off on C7's. Being a FORMER shop forman for a Cat dealer. The great pic's that you posted, reminds me of why one needs to keep track of water in the fuel. Thanks for the pics....
