thats good to know, i use brake cleaner at work like its going out of style. it cuts through asphalt and tar like magic, and then i turn around and weld on it. thanks for the info you may have just saved me a trip to the docs office or the grave.

i remember welding galvanized and seeing the yellow cobweb like smoke coming off it , i was told .... you may not want to breath that .

:ouch:

Don't suppose it makes a difference between chlorinated and non-chlorinated??

I like galvanize smoke. I used to do a lot a weldin usin old H beams from highway signs and had a job for a while weldin tabs on galvanized window frames. This was all before the days of all this safety stuff like respirators and ventilation systems. Now days I use a stick welder for galvanize so I can do it with a fan runnin or outside.

Ive welded a lot of galvanized and since its never in a controlled ventilated environment on a farm i just try my best to stand upwind and keep my head out of the plume. Even with doing that I still usually end up on the couch the next day with a terrible headache sucking on my inhaler.

Good read about the brakleen. I use it religously, and im starting to try and use non chlorinated stuff when i can man is it easier on the lungs and headaches.
