DAMN ..... Yes really worth the read. I know I was one who never read those labels, but you can bet I'll be reading all of them now. Great find, thank you :c:
Made this a sticky so everyone gets a chance to read it.
son of a bitch thats crazy...im gonna have to remember that...
wow I am glad I took the time to stop and read that I have sprayed a part with brake clean before welding and I wont do that again.
Damn...i guess being with a fire dept, and workin with hazmat,I kinda thought everyone knew that, plus the old freon did something of similar nature. We used to teach it to the local garages in the area.
Ya ya, where were all these warnings when I was young and stupid, guess they were there I was just to stupid to read em. And ya after years of workin around farms, doin auto body work and metal plating and refinishing I have Chronic Asthma, Bronchitis and very little sense of smell or taste. Matter of fact the breathing problems cost me my military career here a couple of years ago when they discharged me on a medical.
thats good to know thanks, i guess i shoud read the lables on stuff
Excellent find!! :U::U:
I love brake cleaner, but I will never look at it the same. Thanks for the post, and I am putting that article in the company safety maunal
thats good to know, i use brake cleaner at work like its going out of style. it cuts through asphalt and tar like magic, and then i turn around and weld on it. thanks for the info you may have just saved me a trip to the docs office or the grave.
i remember welding galvanized and seeing the yellow cobweb like smoke coming off it , i was told .... you may not want to breath that .
:ouch: |
Don't suppose it makes a difference between chlorinated and non-chlorinated??

:ouch: Good read about the brakleen. I use it religously, and im starting to try and use non chlorinated stuff when i can man is it easier on the lungs and headaches. |
Oh man, dont want my wife to find this! She swears that im hooked on brake cleaner and its gonna kill me someday. Maybe i will slow down now haha
watch out for welding in general, i am hear to tell you. smoke is not good for you.
You mean he didn't know inhaling vaporized chemicals could kill him?
DAMN. Ok, that's a bit harsh, but a little common sense comes in handy at times. :ph: |
great post !!! that was one of the first things i learned in shop class.
Great post ,I use that stuff to clean almost everything. I wasn't aware of the side effects being SO serious. :nope: I guess I'm one of the stupid ones, ya know "real men don't read directions". I guess I better start, 'cause Dead doesn't sound fun at all.:scare2: Thanks for the info.:tu:

Good read thanks!!
Dang,i use brake clean on a daily basis at work. Thanks for the post.I'll think of using something different.
also, don't use carb cleaner anywhere near open flame.......white cloud, green flame, instant lung problems / asthma-like attack
Isn't science fun!?! :w2:
Good read, by the way. You can never be too careful when it comes to chemical reactions...and I'm sure we ALL take it for granted far too often :ouch: |
oh yea. in some of my chemistry labs we have done some reactions that make this awesome lookin smoke and then our teacher says dont breathe that in or you will die. or if you smell somethin sweet find something soft to land on cuz you are going to pass out very soon. I dont remember what the sweet smell was though. I hate chemical smoke it messes people up without knowing it
and Uncle Bubba thanks for going out there to serve and protect |
And, on a side note, don't spray brakecleaner down an intake on a running or about to be started engine, either. I cleared a warehouse when I grabbed a can of brakclean instead of carb cleaner while working on a forklift.
that's crazy wont do that
wow that is scary, I will read more lables now
Weldin galvy can give you galv poisoning which can be cured partially with lots of milk. i dont believe there are any long term effects from that but im not for sure. We weld Galvy all the time at work, and with an exhaust fan your usually ok. I took this post and sent it out to my company's safety team.
