Just bought a 1987 Mercedes 300SDL with 200K Miles. The oil was very black so I changed it yesterday. Now I discover that Diesels require "C" designation oils and I filled it with SN for gas engines that I had for my other cars. Can I run that around town a while or should I take it out right away? Many thanks.

my first diesel ever! man, I miss that car. You don't need to take it out right away, but I wouldn't run it to long either.

I am not sure about the right oil, but I would put a mild cleaner like sea foam in run it a little bit (hours) then change it. Just my thought.

yep 200 or so would be good. you only get 80% of the oil out when you do an oil change. did yo do the top end HPOP oil change?? I am doing a 3x oil change to mine. may be too much but I am doinig to be safe, I only have 78500 on my 2000 but after the first change and ran it 30 mins I took a sample and it was very very black still.
