Default Looking for the best diesel for the money

Hi Folks,

I am in the market for a ford f-250 or f-350. I am torn between the 7.3 and the coil spring suspension of the 2005. I am looking for input on what to buy, either way i want it mated to the 6 speed manual transmission.

Thanks in advance

Well it's all personal preference the 7.3 and the 6.0 are great motors. I don't know if you know this but the 7.3 wasnt an option after 2003 it changed to the 6.0 there both great motors don't let some of the horror stories scare you, every truck has it's down falls. What type of drivig terrain are you in? What's your use for the truck?

Or listen to people that dont own a 6.0l and dont understand the engine. 6.0l is a great motor, you just need to do some preventative maintence on them just like any other truck. If you trun up the power something will break. Mine has 170xxx miles and runs great. Pretty much all stock minus egr.

I am wanting to put my boat with ease, my old bronco has no problem pulling it but it sucks down the fuel. I will never own another truck without four wheel drive.

The 7.3 will be the cheaper truck. The 6.0 has a VGT (variable geometry turbocharger) which is alot better for pulling, especially if you want a 6 spd. 6.0 has its issues but if you are not going after high hp numbers then it will be ok. I would recommend an EGR delete or replace the stock EGR with one from bullet proof diesel or another shop. The stock EGR on the first couple years of the 6.0 is where alot of the horror stories come from. Also kids using daddys money to get a 6.0 then running really high tunes on it the truck cant handle. But the 7.3 is also a very solid and reliable motor. Wont pull as hard as the 6.0 but it wont let you down. My family has all 7.3. One with 350K miles and one with 275K. Both are 2000's. Havent had any real big issues with them. Changed the glow plugs a few times. They're a good truck. Good luck with which ever one you pick.

If I bought another 6.0 it would be an automatic. The 6.0 with the 6spd just didn't seem to have the low end torque even with an SCT.

Best diesel for the money, is the 6.0. Its hard to find level headed people selling 7.3s for what they are worth instead of what the owner thinks its worth. Im also with luke, if you decide to go with the 6.0, get the torqshift. Stock power they last forever and even tuned they last a long time. By the time you buy a 6.0 your going to have a nicer, newer truck for less money than any other diesel. Dont forget to do your homework about them though

Preventative maintenance is oil and filter changes etc, not 5K worth of work Sure go with a 6.0 if thats what you want, just do your homework first and know what you're getting into, and no I have never owned one, I'm not that dumb.
