Did you want information just on the engine or the whole truck? Are you looking to buy one?

Just in Cummins fuel systems you are looking at four different set ups (VE, p7100, vp44 and cp3).

What do you plan on doing with the truck daily driver? All out performance, tow rig?

 

They're both good engines, just depends on what you want to use them for. My .02

I would be happy driving either truck. i have owned bolth and each has its problems and strong points. my opinion is cummins 24 valve best motor with crapy fuel system. 7.3 close with beter fuel system, but 7.3 does not pull like a cummins without huge modes, but i like the ford truck better only because the dodge seat sucks but the ford has crapy power stearing. just dont ask me about the autoes they all crapy.

 

If you want an engine to keep close to stock (maybe a chip and exhaust), do normal truck stuff with it, and last a long time, either engine will perform just fine.

If you want to be competitive in racing or pulling, the Cummins is much easier to upgrade, and takes less time and $$$$$ to get to a certain power level as compared to a 7.3

 

The Cummins is a medium duty diesel as opposed to the Powerstroke which I believe is considered a light duty diesel. You can get reliable 550 600 horse out of a Cummins with out going crazy. Powerstrokes like to tear themselves up if you go over 4-450 from what I hear. Also the Cummins is a 3rd the parts when you do have to rebuild it... If you just want a truck, go get what you like. If you want a work horse buy a cummins. I come from a Ford family so every one was mad when I pulled up in My Dodge for turkey day. But I did it for a reason... My dream truck would be a Fummins F350 dually.

 

The 5.9 is used in some medium duty applications, but the 7.3 is used in every medium duty application the 5.9 is (school buses, box trucks, etc.), labeled the T444E. I consider the 8.3 Cummins a true medium duty engine.

And just IMO, with any truck.....

reliable truck= low $$$
high hp truck= moderate $$$
reliable, high hp truck= serious $$$
