i haven't heard about a lot of dmax head gasket failures. The LMM is very very very similar to the LBZ besides the emissions.

Would fire ringing and studding the head prevent that?

like i said, head gaskets aren't a common issue on a dmax, the only motor they are is the 6.0 psd.

It still a good motor. For a totally off the wall build there are preferences for older motors, but short of crazy, an lbz/lmm is the ticket. The lmm is still completely bombable with tuners or efilive. The only difference when your bombing short of building the motor is added expense of deleting the dpf and having to get a race tuner whether you want to tune it that hot or not.

Well i do want to put a programmer into it, and i would like to check into a twin turbo setup, so the DPF stuff wouldn't be a problem removing since i would be running a programmer anyways. What programmer would be good for a twin turbo setup?

EFI live is really the way to go. It is REALLY easy to screw stuff up, but for the price, look into buying a set of good gauges and getting an EFIlive tune from someone who knows what they are doing. idahorob was one of the first running compounds on a dmax, and he does tuning. Maybe this site has a sponsor that does it, but basically go for a good shop that knows what they are doing, buy EFI live from them, and most throw in tunes. Then just ask for tunes for your setup.

if you are gonna built it for racin and pullin i would go with the 06-07 5.9 cummins pretty solid motor stock or bombed plus the solid axle up front is stronger than the IFS of the chevy/gmc.. then my second pick would be the LLY dmax. personally i would stay away from the LBZ as its knowen for cracking pistons once you bomb it. the LLY has a over heating issue but can easily be fixed..and the lmm good motor but alot of emissions crap to deal with.. tranny you will need to address no matter what you buy. now for creature comforts gmc has hands down. plus the chevy/gmc has a much larger cab if you are looking into crew cabs.

so the 5.9 is better than the 6.7? And since the LMM is similar to the LBZ do they crack pistons? I have never heard of the D-max's cracking pistons so this may be something i need to read up on, and to take care of the emissions stuff, wouldn't a new exhaust and a DPF delete take care of it?

no the lmm does not suffer from the cracked piston thing. for some reason and noone really knowes why its only the lbz. and yes i would say the 5.9 is better than the 6.7.

Ok, on the LMM, what will it take to remove all the DPF stuff? Do i need more than a programmer and a exhaust? because if thats all it takes i may go with a 2008-2009 duramax

I THINK I FOUND MY TRUCK! Found a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD CrewCab short bed 4x4 with 66,036 on it, dealer wanted 29k for it on the window, i pulled into look at it and the truck is really clean, dealer came out and with only asking if i liked the truck and me replying "yes" he knocked it down to 26k, so friday i am going back and he's gonna let me listen to it run and take it for a drive then talk about my trade in and about a loan, since i am young with little credit, anything i should look out for on the truck while listening and driving it?
