Thinking of buy a 1996 cummins 12v

But like if im in 3rd it wont kick out any black smoke my bidddys does but he doesn't have the egr on his you think that is stopping it

yeah i'd almost guarantee the egr would cause it not to smoke, and the pump might be de-tuned in order to meet whatever california emissions there were at that time, smoke is not desirable though, granted with power on a 12v smoke is pretty much natural

Truthfully, he'll want gauges if he does anything more than an intake/exhaust. Messing with the afc and plate are gonna mess with not only boost, but egt's.

Like I said, the cooling system on these trucks are great. Diesels naturally take forever to warm up because of this.

A stock diesel made after the 80's shouldnt smoke at ALL. If it did, I would suspect something is wrong.

Mine didnt start smoking until i messed with the starwheel (plate still stock), and even then only when I lug it down.

Thats called haze, and it's normal.

No there is no smoke button. You sound like my 18year old cousin; he wants to buy a diesel so it can smoke. Just grab a damn chisel and a damn screw driver and go to town on that pump.

Im getting some white smoke as well is that burning oil? And any way to fix that with out having to replace the rings
