I have owned a few 6.2 and have one right now and it depends on what you are looking for. As far a reliability they are very reliable despite what some people say. There is simply not very much that can break on them. They are a very simple diesel. If you are going in to it to make the big power than a 6.2 is not for you. They where never designed for that they had one thing in mind when they made them and that was fuel mileage. My 6.2 is a 3/4 4x4 on 35's and gets between 23 and 26 mpg. Thats not to bad for 1983. Now with that being said I would not trade my 6.2 for a 12v. It runs to smooth makes plenty on the bottom end and gets to good of fuel mileage. Granted you wouldn't want to race any one with it. If I was to do any thing I would and am going to put a turbo on it.

its a good motor. Drive it like its an underpowered six banger instead of a race car and it should last forever.

Dads' had his for a lil under 10 years now (got it used of course). Been through 3 transmissions (Chrysler pos, replaced with a Muncie), ball joints, transfer case, head gaskets, remand injectors, water pump, mechanical fuel pump blank installed an electric fuel pump. So all in all, it's been a good engine.
