The main thing that can go wrong with these trucks is the PMD (pump mounted driver) which makes the truck either miss or just not run at all. A new pmd cost around $200-$300 (if you shop around you can probably find a better deal) Heath diesel power makes a PMD isolator which elimates the problem of a faulty pmd and moves it near the skid plate under the radiator insted of near the engine where heat can get to it. Heath's isolator costs $549 but is probably worth it. My 97 6.5 hasn't had any major problems since I bought it, theres been a few little things ive fixed but that was expected. It has 93k miles on it now. These trucks arn't bad in the winter as long as you have good battery(s) and plug them in every cold night. The only place you might get in trouble is if you let it sit for more than a few days without running. I think the truck your looking into would make a great DD truck. Alot of people dislike the 6.5's but i think there a great truck. I hope this helps you!

PMD like everyone says. I have a 95 6.5 with 296,000 miles on it and none of them where easy. I have replaced the injector pump 1 time 150,000 miles ago, 1 injector, and a couple of pmd's. You can't convince me these are not good engines. If you talk to people that know how to fix them wright they will last forever.

i'm new here but i'v had my 6.5 for a long time the only problems i'v ever had witch are common is the pmd oil pressure switch and the lift pump witch are all easy to fix there are also alot of upgrades so u dont have these problems alot i love mine and it's not hard or expensive to make run good mine gets 19.5 mpg and just smoke the tires so far its the best truck i'v ever owned

Had to get out the old farm truck ford haul it and the trailer back to Indiana. it got about 12 mpg with 4.10 gears 2wd
