Default What's a good deal?

Ok fellas, I'm trying to figure out what's a good deal/realistic. I'm currently trying to find a 98.5 to 02 cummins 4x4, DRW or SRW. What I need help with most is pricing per miles/condition obviously. I know that a good deal would be like an 01 cummins with 90,000 miles for 10K. Now, I don't believe this to be realistic but I wish it was. So what is realistic? I know someone that has owned a truck since new, and has taken care of it may think it's is worth more than I would wanna pay. At the same time, I don't wanna get burned. Now I grew up in a auto body shop as well as a tire and alignment shop, so I like to think I know what I'm looking for in those regards. Here is a check list of things I have come up with. Please add to it and let me know what you guys think. Oh and if you know of any good deals let me know. My max price is pri 12,000 for this year range.

53 block for leaks. Leaks coolant under turbo
OILS!! Smell burnt or black
Hitch pin ovaled
Check 4x4, leaks
Fuel pressure
fuel filters
Front end oil leaks….
Tie rods
Transmission seal, end seal.
Rear main seal
Check every option

If the 98.5 has a 12v (If you get that lucky) check to see about the break away bolt or something to that extent to see if its still there. If its not you know they did something to the fuel plate and possibly other parts in there, removed the arm that slides the plate etc. Its the top left most bolt if you look at it from the drivers side. Sorry if any of the info such as names and things are incorrect. Im sure someone will correct me

Well I want the 98.5-02 for the 24v. I know that maybe the 12v will be cheaper to bomb and get the hp out of, but I like the plug and play with the 24v. Now I know that the VP44 isn't the greatest but I'm hoping to get ahold of a truck with a new one, or hopefully just put a FASS on and call it good. I believe that the 04.5 is the best year for a 24v common rail with the CP3, but thats a little outta my price range.(don't get me wrong I could buy a brand new truck, just don't wanna stretch myself like and idiot.) So basically I just want a low mile truck 90k-140k in good condition and not go over 10k. I don't think this is realistic but I can hope and search my butt off for one.

tdiezel speaks the truth. You can find it for <10k. Just takes patience, lots of research, and exploring all your options. I'm buying one this next week, exactly what you're looking for. Check ebay, autotrader, craigslist, and all the local traders and classifieds. You'll find it.
