Default Injector Return Lines Replaced

Well I replaced my injector return lines. Injectors 3,4, and 5 have been wet since I bought the car. The line from 2 to 3 actually came apart as I got it out. The plugged line on 5 came apart too.

I hope that will pick up my mileage a little. To date my average has been 24.28 with a low of 22.85 and a high of 26.00. This has been about a 60/40 mix of City/Highway mileage.

25 mpg in town type driving is very typical.... there are a lot of people that will claim mid and high 30's, some will even claim almost 40 on the highway; it just ain't true.

I think that sometimes people have very high expectations for the MPG on the W123's. These are still rather heavy (an very safe) cars with gearing that is for pulling. My non-turbo 1981 300D has gotten as high as 27MPG on the highway and the engine is running very high. My 1985 turbo 300D can do slightly better on the highway, but it is still a matter of the power gearing.

A friend of mine had a non-turbo 300D Euro version with a manual. That made a significant difference in the mileage. He rarely got below 28MPG.

Now my 1999 E300 has gotten 35MPG on the highway without running the A/C. If I run the A/C it will take about 4MPG out of it.

swap in a 2.88 rear end from an '85. My '83 has a 2.88 diff and gets 27-29 mpg in Houston traffic!
