Default 05 liberty no compression #2 cylinder

im thinking about buying a 05 liberty with a bad motor, it has no compresion on the number 2 cylinder. is this motor sleeveable? what are the usual reasons they lose compression? the guy wants 5 grand with the blown motor is this to much, i think i can get a junkyard motor for around 3500 or am i better off rebuilding the old motor? im a average mechanic and dont know alot about these jeep diesels, i own a vw diesel and do alot of my own work, any help would be appreciated
