Default RUST

Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to keet the rust off the truck? Just over this winter i can see the rust start on the wheel wells and the bottom of the doors. Do i need to give it a good wax before the winter? Do i need to wash the truck every week during the winter? Anything to keep this stuff off the truck. Any info would be nice thanks.

firstdiesel, Your best bet is to keep all the salt and and that is used on the roads washed off the body and ESPECIALLY washed off the inside of the fenders, and undercarriage. Salt is VERY corrosive and the longer it stays on the truck, the worse it is for the truck. I would recommend keeping it washed off on a regular basis. Then i would always try to either get a good coat of paint in the undercarriage, whether that be taking it somewhere or doing it yourself. But keeping it clean will help tremendously

Here in Canada we have lots of salt on the roads in the winter and have found the best thing to do is spray the under carriage and inside doors and any place you can with oil. Its messy but it works.....

You can wax it all you want but that wont stop the rust from forming from inside the doors, rocker panels and behind the fenders. That is where a truck rusts ...from the inside out. By the time rust shows its usually too late. Try a search for Crown rustproofing . Its a quality company and works as good as any....

clean the bottoms of the doors real good. also the lip on the fenders... scuff them up with a red brilo pad hit them with por15 (tape off so u dont get any were it will be seen when on exterior of truck). i did 2 coats. then i took off the door panel and por15 the inside of the doors also. most rust forms on the lip of the fenders because salt sits on them. also i just got a new real bumber and i por15 the whole inside because they tend to rust from the inside out because the rear tires kick salt back there. also watch under the cab by the rocker panels. i caught mine just in time and por 15 them to. i also striped the whole interior out did the whole interior with por15. and to top it all off i dont drive it in the winter anymore!
