yeah i heard that you dont want to let a diesel idle for long period of time just idlin bc the flash point or some thin. could get deposits on the injectors or valves

At high idle--1200rpm--an ISX Cummins 15litre burns around 1.2 gallons per hour. I have slept in the "Dodge Motel" a couple times, but it has been a while. Seems like it burned about 6 gallons in 8 hours, a little under a gallon an hour. If you did it on a regular basis you would want to be able to set high idle to keep your valves from getting gummed up.

at a rodeo i had to sleep in my dodge truck it used less than an 1/8 of a tank to run about 7 hours

I have way serious doubts about the engine overheating... wtf man. Think about it.

Cummins says 15 minutes max when its below 20 degrees and less from there as the ambient temp increases. If possible you shouldn't let it idle for more than 10 minutes per hour of operation.
