stupid question

if i had a full tank of fuel, if i just started it and left it running how long untill i run out of fuel?

Whit 03-09-2009 01:30 PM

no load is about a 2o% duty so I would guess over a week :humm:

who knows man give it a try and let us know, I would be concerned about holding a flash point on yer oil and also cylender wash

well there are alot of determining factors.

it depends on the size of the fuel tank, winter or summer blend, what the idle is set at, what the ambient temp is, what elevation you are at, rather or not you have the a/c running, if there is anything that could cause the motor to load down like something causing the alternator to be under a load, is your truck on level ground, stock injectors or performance, and what other performance products are on the truck. i'm not real sure how someone would be able to calculate that but there are alot of things that can cause a calculation to go out of range..... maybe someone who has done this, like a hot shotter who idles while sleeping, can chime in here....

fill it up.........let idle for 1 hour.....fill up again and do the math:humm:

I like his idea. Just never let a PSD run out of fuel. It's real bad for the injectors.

im sure te engine would overheat way before you got down to 1/4th tank....

I would estimate your mileage to be 0 MPG (adjusted for windage)

Well you have me curious now too:humm: We need to do this with a Ford Chevy and Dodge diesel. I wouldn't think they would burn a gallon an hour. But I have been wrong before:w2:

i'd be curious too....
but what whitmore said makes sense

just gotta do the math after an hour...

makes sense to me
