y do almost all the tractors that run wide open there whole life an semi's pull ever mile have inline 6 if V8 diesels are so great an powerful y arnt they in them. im a ford guy an had a powerstroke for my first diesel an drove many. can't say anything about chevy never pulled with 1 but don't like the motor seen to many go down the track an the manifolds glowing I rode in a cummins 1 time an 4 months later i had 1 for myself never thought i would ever own a dodge but if ur gonna pull an want to get there faster then ur ford or chevy friends CUMMINS is the way to go. 1 more thing the amount of money u have to put in to get more power is alot less then the rest (just an opinion)

Also my friend has a 99 7.3 with double stacked chips and my 5.9 with a 60 horse programer blows his doors off 5.9 all the way
Im new here but i dont think the 7.3 ecu's are stackable

The thread seemed to go south for a minute there...motorcycles?...so I will express my opinion...Dodge Cummins IS the only way to go...and I will say I am a Ford fan at heart, and love most Ford Products but the Dodge is a better choice...for me I got ya all beat cuz I have the best of both worlds...a 7.6L DT466 inline 6 turbo diesel...I might not have the same Hp as a Cummins but I can sure bet I have as much or more torque as one...and to top it off I don't even have glow plugs to worry about...my truck will start up at the pump of the key!...it's one bad heavy hauler...I'm actually thinking of swapping the engine into a newer Ford chassis cuz I can't seem to locate any brake parts for it...but that's another story

I don't know why these debates go on. The Cummins has more power potential (mostly because of the after market support) than any of them but no body ever maxes them out so what does it mater. The 7.3 also has high potential but no one maxes them out ether. So does it really mater. There both good engines. As far as the Cummins being a strait 6 for power I would say they do it more for cost. Every 3 engines you get one free. Now they might take the money they save and put it in the rest of the engine so that could be a good thing.

cummins dont have glow plugs either

they are both great engines ima cummins guy at heart but i would like to have a 7.3 for a tow rig. to be perfectly honest with uns id like to have one of each cummins powerstroke and a dirty max

they all have there strong points and weak links it comes down to what you want ur truck to do

They make big diesels in V and Inline. I don't buy the argument that inline is better than a V. The reason the 6bt is a great engine is because Cummins makes great engines and they make them in both V and Inline.

i worked at a diesel shop and fords where there more than anything, 7.3s are the best stroke ever made, they will have valve problems but wont really blow the heads, injectors and turbos are a huge problem and the stock intakes crack and brake alot and you dont know it until the motor goes bad 10k miles later, go with the 5.9 hands down they are way more reliable and will last way longer and make more power, dont buy a 6.0 they are a joke and you will always have problems and regret it. i also found it funny that everyone that worked there (beside me) drove and loves fords- they always get good deals on the ones that brake and then fix them for cost, the owners didnt want to deal with them anymore

Yall are aware that the 6.4 powerstrokes are capible of 1000+ hp with some tuning and nos right? That is on the stock block, injectors, and turbos. That um supra does that right? What about that cummins? Dmax????
