A compressor you pick up at your local autoparts store is not designed for a heavy duty cycle nor will it keep from building condensation and water in the tank.

as said above, don't skimp on compressors or you will just need to re buy them soon. I have an 8.5 gallon tank and two viair 380c's feedin it, to a 1951 diesel train horn, I usually run the 165 pressure switch, but for special ocasions I pop in a 200 psi switch and really let it sing.

The Viair 380's are probably the best ones out there for what we're doing with them. Really reliable, easy maintenance and high output for the size.
