well im still searching and i seem to have found a 2001 Dodge ram 2500 with an automatic in it. and after a little researching i found that it is better to stay away from the automatic tranny. So i was thinking of putting an Allison behind it. what is the best one to put behind it (if you can) and will the stock transfercase still work behind the allison

TIA

With some mods there's nothin wrong with the Auto's. When they first came out there was no aftermarket for the stronger parts but now everything's available to make an auto bullet proof for whatever you want to do with it, just depends on the money your want to spend.

Are you wanting to build it yourself or buy one already built? I would reccomend at least new clutches, Billet converter,VB, billet input shaft, and a billet output shaft if you are planning on a good amount of power for racing or sled pullin. If it will never see that kind of stuff I would say a good converter and VB will make a huge difference.

there are alot of tranny companies that are out there that build Quality tranny's..... be prepaired to spend no less than 2500 and no more than 6K for a rebuilt 47re or 48re..... i bought mine from Goerend Transmission Incorporated but there are a few suncoast dealers on here and BD builds some nice trannys too. check around and research it. i'm super happy with my tranny as i beat on it daily and it still shifts like new.
