Default ?'s About A Couple Of Things

First off let me say hello and that im a newbie when it comes to talking about diesels since i have recently started learning about them.

On to the questions.

1.) What kind of truck do you drive and what is the average MPG you get w/o hauling anything?

2.) Saw a 2002 Dodge ram 2500 w/ a 6spd and a 24 valve cummins yesterday and i really liked it but if we were to say that i would get that truck what problems could i possibly expect out of that vehicle?

3.) what is the MPG increase i would see if i put on a high flow air filter, high flow exhaust, and a performance chip.

4.) In your opinion what is the best add on based on price, power gain (if any), and MPG increase.

Thanks in advance for all this help it is greatly appreciated

2008 MegaCab 3500...mileage sucks but its only 2 days old! I did however get 16.2 mpg today and that is better than expected. My last one a 2006 with a 5.9 would get about 19mpg better if I could drive it normal!!

2.) Saw a 2002 Dodge ram 2500 w/ a 6spd and a 24 valve cummins yesterday and i really liked it but if we were to say that i would get that truck what problems could i possibly expect out of that vehicle?

Biggest problem...A huge desire to 'bomb' the beast making you broker and happier than you have ever been...

3.) what is the MPG increase i would see if i put on a high flow air filter, high flow exhaust, and a performance chip.

Honestly...2-6 mpg gain...OR LOSS because you will be on the floor full time!

4.) In your opinion what is the best add on based on price, power gain (if any), and MPG increase.

A Chip....but you wont see the full benefit unless you do the intake and exhaust...

Thanks in advance for all this help it is greatly appreciated
hope this helps a little, again WELCOME!

Well I cant help you with an actuall milage count I have no idea mine changes too much. With that truck there are a few common things that need to be addressed. The 98.5-02' trucks have a very common problem with the lift pump going bad and taking out the VP44 injection pump with them. If caught early it is an easy fix. If not it will starve the injection pump of fuel flow it needs for cooling and lubrication. An aftermarket fuel system will greatly enhance the life of the injection pump on these trucks. The best first mod on this truck is definetley guages, so you can monitor your fuel pressure, boost, and exhaust gas tempertures. Next would be a better intake and a 4" exhaust system. I'm not too up to date on the milage boxes but I would say an Edge EZ, or a quadzilla max milage box would probly help. The best I cant say is there is no gasoline powered pickup that you can tow with like a diesel truck and even get close to the same milage.

No lift pumps shouldnt be that much, but as Pete mentioned it should be replaced with a better aftermarket pump then no worries!!! I think between 299 and 500 would get you a full replacement system like an Airdog...

Our vendors here can help with pricing!

Right now Airdog's with the air seperation systems and filters and all are still at the $499 introductory rate I believe. Plus the lifetime warranty. I would strongly reccomend your first mods be a set of guages and if the FP is TOO low you have to get a lift pump. If it is bad there is now way to tell how long it has been bad. In an 02' there is a trick you can do to scan it for codes. Put the key in and turn it on and off three times ending with it on. If there are any codes write them down and we'll help you sort them out. If there are none take it on a good hard test drive and check again incase they have been cleared.

2001 D-max, 17 with an aggressive tune and heavy foot.

Only thing i know about with older dodges is the cracked dashes, but if it don't bother you then its a good truck.

3.) what is the MPG increase i would see if i put on a high flow air filter, high flow exhaust, and a performance chip. 4-6mpg

4.) In your opinion what is the best add on based on price, power gain (if any), and MPG increase. tuner, but intake and exhaust can be done at a very low price also.

Thanks in advance for all this help it is greatly appreciated

145K is barely broke in......

i drive a 96 3500 12valve cummins..... i dono on mileage but have seen as high as 18-19 and as low as 14-15.... depends on how i drive..... all the small bombs will *** up in the long run.... intake, exhaust, etc will help out once you start doing programmers and what not..... definately get gauges first, then address the fuel system, then look into the tranny if it is an auto as it's been on borrowed time since it was first driven off the lot.......

EDIT re-read it was a 6 speed.... maybe look into a clutch but isn't manditory at first.....

Mine is an 02' 2500 4x4 QC auto with 157,000 miles on it. The worst I get is about 14-15 MPG with my foot in it hard. The baest I have recorded on the higway is about 20 or so. But I sacrifece Alot of fuel for a little fun now. At first you will probly wanna play with it so the milage will go down. After I got used to the power mine has now I learned to drive a little more cautiously on fuel consumtion. My edge box doesnt even come on unless I am pretty much at the track or dyno or the occasional show of force .
