We do not NEED foreign oil. We do it just to keep good relations with other countries and the market jacked up. Resuming exploration in Alaska wont net us a thing because the limiting factor is the number of refineries. We dont have enough of them to cover the oil/gas being produced NOW much less opening up Alaska. The Operators have intentionally refrained from building more refineries because they knew a day like this was coming. Now they just rape us blind, but all of that is going to change when the United Arab Emirates starts building 2 more refineries here. If GM holds up to their promise to have over 80% of the vehicles they manufacture run on diesel by 2012 that will also help drive the price back down.
