Turbo Cool Down Times
If I am not mistaken, the 6.7L turbo is water cooled. The cool down period for this turbo is very short! As soon as the exhaust temp drops below 600 I shut my engine off. No problems yet! And by the way, they recommend that we should not let the engine idel for more than a couple of minutes before shutting down. As soon as the temp drops on DPF, it sharts collecting the soot.
600? It should drop well below that very quickly as soon as you stop. The Duramax VVT is also water cooled and I can pull off the freeway after a long drive time and the EGT's will drop to around 450 as soon as I put it in park and then down to 380* within about a minute. The Cummins turbo is also similar. I wouldnt recommend shutting down at 600. Even though its water cooled theres no circulation and 600* will cause coking on a static oil very quickly. If yours isnt dropping down to around 400* fairly quickly you might want to get it checked out.

That was my point! By the time you get to a rest stop of wherever you are going to park it, it will be in a safe range to shut it off. There is no need to park it and let it run for 5 minutes!
Correct...no need to run it for 5 minutes but depending on the AAT and how hot the turbo is staying you will want to leave it running for 1-2 minutes. Shutting down at 600* is not healthy for your turbo.
