F-250 powerstroke turbo/ EGR problem
Hello all, this is my first post, I have a 2004 F-250 superduty. My engine light came on the other day and the code (P 401) is telling me the EGR is getting insufficient flow. I have been having starting problems when it is cold , below 28 degrees, I thought it was the glow plugs but they have checked out to be fine. I am disabled and my wife was just layed off of an 8 year job so I am trying to be a "tight-wad" and do this repair myself.
What I am trying to find out is when you have an insufficient flow in the EGR, what are the first steps before one goes out and buys a brandnew replacement? Can you clean one or is this job one to be left to the qualified mechanic?
I work on my "57" ford pick up, but diesels are a bit out of my league. Just trying to surrive here anyones input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
