dome lights staying on

dome lights staying on

My 03 excursion dome lights are staying on along with running board lights. No door ajar light on dash, dome light switch is turned off. Dealer say it needs new instmnt cluster. any ideas??

This has happened in every Ford truck I've owned. Open the door, spray the latch in the door down with WD-40. A healthy dosing. Then close and open the door about 10x. Should fix it.

While I am confused why the dealer thinks you need a new cluster I agree 9 times out of 10 its the door switches. The Excursions are particularly bad for this with the three doors in the back.

i got an idea why the dealer thinks you need a new cluster, because the dome light is on but the door light is off. must mean its a bad cluster.

I agree with lubing them up, I've had this happen on just about every newer Ford I've owned. The light switch is built into the door latch mechanism inside the door and they get gummed up.
