Default rattle noise on shifter?

this noise has been driving me nuts, its on the very end of the shiftter lever (automatic). when i hold my hold around it real tight, it seems to go away and i can feel it through my hand. is there a simple fix or anyone else have this issue before???

i was already thinking about rtv silicone when i scrolled down and saw that.

is it just the little od trim ring thats buzzin?

you should hear the jalopy im driving. rf shock bushing is beat out of it and it sounds like theirs a little gremlin beating on my truck with a ball peen hammer when i hit bumps. i just bought it safetied too. apperantly in ontario the shock just has to be attached to pass. (BS!)

well, that may be an idea, but i dont think thats the issue. my o/d cap actually fell off, i have'nt been running with it on. when i put it on, it makes the same rattle noise as if it were on or off...i can wrap my hand around the shifter when it does it and i can feel the vibration/rattle in my hand. really dont know if theres an easy fix or buy a new shifter, which sucks!

this is ghetto and fixes nothing but could you use a heavy elastic band or surgical tubeing to put some tension on it as long as it doesnt skip the detents and slam it in low?

Is it a small rattle like maybe the OD switch is loose or missing the spring inside, or a big rattle like the shifter handle is loose and vibrating out to the end?

thats what i'm thinking about just doing. it feels like its inside the shifter. i took the plastic ring off and the long oval kinda shaped piece and it still rattles. i'm going to try and take the o/d button itself out tomorrow and see if thats it. if not, i guess i'll be ordering a new shifter!
