is there a way to adjust the waste gate to hold more boost pressure for longer?

actual adjusting on a stock one no (atleast to my knowledge you cannot) i know there are aftermarket ones you can buy that are adjustable, or take off the little red wire thats on the end of the wastegate, that'll give you a coulpe extra psi of boost

I have looked in to adjusting the stock waste gate. have not attempted this yet but will do soon. what i read was you can shorten the connecting rod to the waste gate by removing the two bolts that hold the actuator to the turbo. then the small clip on the gate arm. remove the waste gate form the turbo. then twist the threaded part down a few three turns. they said that the threads are flat on one side so might have to chase the threads a little. then re install waste gate. im not too sure on how this will work but its alot safer then just bypassing it. (removing the red hose) i have too say after reading about how to obtain more boost i gave it a shot. ( removing the red vacuum hose) was not happy on how the turbo sounded and dont think it would be a good idea to run the truck like this for a long period of time. i did gain how ever about 5 to 7 psi in boost but my EGTs went up 400 degrees than normal.

Sounds like I'll be unplugging things this weekend. Would it have a differnce on a mostly stock early 99 though?

i think that red wire turns off ur turbo or doesn't let it spool up like it should... Ur gonna burn up your turbo.. try something else hate to see someone blow up their turbo

powerstroke.org is where i was reading this. i thought i might share some info on diesel bombers..... but you can just google waste gate adjustment. there are guys out there that say you cant adjust a stock WG but if you look ant the actuall WG its set up so you can shorten the pull rod witch in turn will hold more pressure for boost.

its not a wire. its a vacuume hose that assist in pulling seat pressure off the waste gate diaphram. there is no harm here inless you over boost and then you will be looking for new parts. but for a stock turbo it ads in more boost pressure.

There will be a difference about 5 to 7 psi on your boost. but you have to make sure you plug the vacuum line ( red hose on back of waste gate ) otherwise you will be sucking air and will not complete the vacuum.

i ran my turbo with the red wire off and it still has VERY little play in it, spooled fine, and sounded fine on mine, on the EGT part i dont know because i didn't have a gauge, and there's no way to "turn off" your turbo
