shackle lift

shackle lift
the previous owner put the add-a-leaf kit to get 2.5 inches of lift. well It rides like dookie!
I was wanting to just make a set of shackle to maybe get 1.5" of lift without having such a harsh ride in the front end.
My question is: How much longer will the shackles have to be to achieve 1.5" of lift/leveling ability? I dont see why you would pay $75 for a set when you can make a pair for $20 and a little spare time.
I found one site that gave center hole to center hole(2" total lift) 8.5" center to center bolt hole.
Is this correct? Would 8" bolt hole to bolt hole make it 1.5" of lift?

I made a set for my wifes Excursion along time ago... Make sure to install a center support on them, but do not center it, install it about 1.5" away from the spring mount. If you center it, it will hit the frame when it cycles.
I also would not go more then 1"-1.5" of lift this way, it changes the caster of the front axle.
If you notice on mine the cross piece is centered... as I said, DONT do that...

what is you center bolt hole to bolt hole to get 1-1.5"? I think factory is 5" bolt center to bolt center. how much longer did you make yours? I am going to make them like your set or duplicate the factory ones but longer.
thanks

I made a set that dropped the bottom hole 1.5" lower(5" factory to 6.5" fabricated)
what kind of lift should this provide? I made it identical to the factory style. I also made another set that is 7.5" bolt to bolt center. would that throw my caster out to bad? I may put the 6.5" set on. I have 285s on factory rims, so I just wanted it a little higher than factory but dont want it to squat when I pull our camper, boat or gooseneck.
how do you post pics? i could take a pic and better describe it.

I know this is an old thread but, I've got to post... I bought a completely stock 2005 excursion 4x4 PSD and changed out to 305/70-16 tires on the stock rims. They don't even come close to rubbing. My issue is the dang thing sits too low! I'm reading guys saying 4" lift for 33's??? No way, unless ford changed something. And yes, I measured my buddies 2000, Same height (Within 1/2").
