Default HPOP Install

We installed a different HPOP in my friends 99.5 7.3 and I have a question about the fitment of the HPOP shaft to the gear. How tight is that fit? I was under the impression that it would be a fairly tight fit but I was able to pull the pump out of the gear no problem. No wiggling or cussing required.

Is this pretty normal? The truck is pretty high miles at 180k and it has trouble keeping 1800 psi oil pressure under full song with just a DP 80 race tune(or else its a 120 don't remember.) The different pump helped a little in the mid-range but didn't increase the pressure much.

Pressure readings were taken in O/D wide open throttle about 80-90 mph. The pump we installed was a low mileage refurbished that he picked up for 100 bucks. The IPR was already installed on the pump so we left it. The fit to the gear was the same as the pump we removed.

I'm not discounting that the pump we put on isn't weak also, but is there anything else we should look for to find the low pressure problems?

Normal driving is fine and so is the lower load(WOT in lower gears) put it looses all its poop in O/D.

The gear deff. should not wobble on. If it just slide off thats fine theirs all oil in their so that made it easy. When i did mine i had to use a screwdrive to pop it off.
