Hey guys and gals, new to the site. I have a 4 position DP tuner chip. If I put it on the 4th setting (add 120hp) my pickup will smoke like you can't believe. It also smokes quite a bit on the other settings too (except stock). It's fun sometimes, but can be a nuisance if there's a motorcycle or someone with there window down behind me. Plus, I'm sure that people that don't know anything about diesels believe my pickup is about to explode. The best use I've found for the smoke is crowd control. Just before the resent presidential elections I was stopped at a light in town pulling my trailer with my tractor on it and a whole bunch of people were standing on the corner with Obama signs. I decided to bump the programmer up to 4 just for good measures. I took off and as I rounded the corner I went ahead and grabbed 4th gear and stomped it to the floor. The wind was calm that evening my friends.

Default smoke

so where would be a good place to get a good chip??? and also while driving the beast a little harder than "casually" when i downshift into third i noticed a difference in the clutch.... then a horrible squeeling that changes pitch when i depress the clutch.. however when idleing i can select any gear so im guessing not clutch..throw out bearing????

TS Performance makes a 6 position chip for your 7.3l $300 from thoroughbread diesel right now..highest setting is 140 an if ya want smoke youll get it with that.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

An black smoke is just fuel your not burning, you can cover your intake or create a smoke switch if all you want is smoke, but your best bet is to go get a custom tuned chip. I had the ts performance an it seemed to work just fine an when turned up it smoked a bit

TS tuning is junk IMO

Get a custom tuned chip from someone like Matt at Gearhead or Bill at PHP and do it write the 1st time.

If all you want is smoke you can cover your air intake or set up a smoke switch. Black smoke is unburned "wasted" fuel in my opinion your best bet would be a custom tuned chip or the ts performance chip. My dad had the ts chip on his 96 7.3l an i had it on my 02 an we where both really happy with it
