yeaaaaa, just to add more confusion to everything i've put like several different CPS' in the 97, The Grays always went out, and now this last one I put in, the Blue it was like 60.00$ has lasted over 5k, which is really good for that pickup , bcuz inevitably for whatever reason that truck loves to eat CPS's. But I do keep the gray spare in the glove box just in case. different "Strokes" for different folks I guess
and yes totally acknowledged old thread but my .02 cents nonetheless

In over 1,200,000 miles driving these trucks, I have lost 2 CPS...

yeah the 97 lost so many in the last 100,000 that the ford dealer actually said that something was wrong and therefore would not honor the CPS anymore and then wanted to have us bring it in so we could be charged to fix an unknown problem . maybe they are right, but fixing the unknown can get expensive at the dealerships and truck ran better with a new CPS. I went and bought that other CPS like zombiesoldier and truck runs fine again not even a hiccup.

If your cam has any walk in it, the second it touches the CPS, its dead.

ohh! I did not realize that, but it does make sense, I suppose if our truck continues to insist on eating them up then it's a good indicator that exactly that is going on
