2001 7.3 gear box issues
I'm trying to eliminate 3" steering play in my 2001 F350 7.3 4x4. I replaced the upper and lower ball joints on the right side, tie rods, right side wheel bearing, and got an alignment. I noticed my stabilizer was junk, so I got it up on jack stands to replace it. While still on the stands, key in "ON" position but not running, I turned the wheel all the way to the right, and about a half-quart of power steering fluid hit the ground. I looked for busted lines, cracks, etc. and found nothing. All I could see is that the fluid came from above the gear box. I got it off the stands, started it and drove it around, no more leaks?! The gear box play is still there, but other than that everything seems fine. Bad pump possibly? Would anything besides the steering gear box cause that amount of play in the wheel?
