Default Diesel low power

My 01 250 won't run faster than idle. When in try to drive it has no power and smokes a lot .
I changed the fuel filter started it and let it warm up and no change. Checked all fluids and there good. Think maybe its bad fuel? Or turbo,sensors, ???

Gonna need a lot more information... how many miles, did it just recently happen, how long have you had the truck...etc...

Had the truck about six months but bought it from work where it's been for six years. It's always been serviced well and driven daily until I got it. It's got 275k miles on it. What else do you need to know?

Make sure your MAP sensor hose aint unplugged. Sometimes they blow off and will cause it to lose power and dump black smoke

Thanks. I'll look at that. How can I get the codes from it ( if possible ). I don't have a scanner.

Auto Zone or Advance Auto will scan it for you

To retrieve codes, you will need a scanner that works with powerstrokes... Autoenginuity is the one I use...

To pull every code you will need a special scanner. But a lot can can be pulled with a non specialty scanner. I have pulled all kinds of codes with a $50 scanner from Autozone. If the check engine light is on, there is a code that can be pulled with a generic scanner. If it is NOT on, there may still be proprietary codes lurking that need a specialty scanner.
