Question Four wheel drive won't engage.

2002 f250 power stroke. Backing up hill loaded. Heard a snap. Steering wheel was completely turn to the right when snap occurred. Now my 4 wheel drive won't engage. It shows its engaged but nothing. There for awhile it would engage till I gave it gas then would dis engage. What is that I'm missing here?? Any ideas on this ???

More then likely broke a hub. Can you manually lock the hubs?

Ok I looked at it and tried turning. Now mine is a auto locking hub, will that make a difference ?? I don't believe I can turn this. The hub says lock and auto. And if I put a lot of force on it will it break. Thank you for your help
By the way. Im clueless on this

It should turn. They get stiff over time because no one knows how to lock a hub anymore.

If you cant turn them you may have to use a wrench. Or pull them off and clean them.

Ok. I'll try this in morning after I get off work. I appreciate your help on this.

So I tried this. I was able to move one but not the other. The one on I was unable to move felt like it was plastic and had no writing on it. So if I pull this hub off can I lock it from the inside of it? I'm confused and lost. Four wheel drive dumb here.

The hubs sound old. The factory ones are about 60% plastic.

If you cant turn it try a wrench.

If you pull them all you get is a stub shaft sticking out.

One more night of work then I'll tear into some more. I've had them off a few
Months ago when I replaced the wheel bearings. So they should come right off. I did try turning it with a wrench but it wouldn't budge.
