Do you need a 7.3L cuz me and my buddy just put the cummins in the ford the past weekend, we used first gen motot mounts and we used the NV4500 5 Speed tranny outta a 95 Ram. WE picked up the truck for a screamin 500 bucks engine runs good has 220K on it and the tranny needs a new fork. I think the NV4500 are Bullet proof, but having the ford 5 speed isnt bad easier if you can get an Adapter plate for it Id do it that way and save the hassle of hookin up all the clutch crap, only reason we put the NV4500 in is because the 5 speed outta the ford needs synchros. Also the bell housing off a 460 wont line up with a 445 PS. so you still going to need a plate but its will be cheaper. I would think the gears would be the same in the tranny.

It is a 1990 motor with mechanical fuel so I. Need to take out stock electric pump or add regulator? And say I got a zf5 to cummins would I use powerstroke starter? Is there a strick cummins bolt pattern on nv4500? And if I got a set up nv4500 and t case how is it to work with, with Stock 4x4 shifter location?

In all honesty I couldent tell you if an IDI zf5 would bolt right up to a 7.3 TDI. But one way or another you can most likly get the bell housing for it. But if your throwing in a cummins one way or another if its not a NV4500 of a cummins it will not fit a cummins. You gonna get stuck buyin the adapter plate, desstrokin.com make em but they are EXPENSIVE!!!! 700 bucks or so, but they also sell a conversion manuel. hope I helped!
