Could you change the intake and convert the top of engine to the 98.5 nomenclature, so these mechanics will have more codes. Possibly change from mechanical to electronic FI? Know this is a stupid question. Tired of paying people to swap parts, instead of troubleshooting.

yes u can change your fuel injection from mechanical to electronic, but then with that you either have to keep your mechanical lift pump on to plug up the whole or get a plate to cover the whole. I am going to put on an air dog on my 94.5 which then i am either going to run the lines to the factory filter housing or straight into the head. so it can be done.

You get the same codes as the Superduty trucks... Only difference between your truck and a superduty is you have mechanical fuel pump, 15* HPOP, different injectors/turbo, no intercooler and that's about it... You should trouble shoot the same way here as you would with a superduty, you should use a scanner like AutoEnginuity to diagnose problems and not have to just throw parts at it. The key is to find a mechanic who actually knows what they hell they are doing...

I'm not really quite sure what your asking here about the mechanical fuel injection. Your truck uses the exact same HEUI fuel injection system that a 99+ uses, just different components. Yes you have a mechanical lift pump for a fuel pump but that shouldn't change much unless your having problems with the fuel pump in which, just replace it and move on.
