Pull motor, put it on a stand and flip upside down. Remove pan, clean old "black death" off and prep for new pan. Run a line of "black death" around everything and install pan. Leave upside down for at least 12 hours. Reinstall motor (flip it right side up...)

FYI... Black Death is the factory Ford RVT. Go to ford and ask for it. DO NOT USE ANYTHING else unless you want to do it again in the near future.

what? it has to be done upside down? i dont see why it couldnt be done right side up. i'd like to do it in the truck if it could. there was just no room for the trans and i dont wanna do that again. Who sells an engine stand that will turn that engine?

If you want to do it again, or dont mind leaks then do it right side up.

It can not be done in the truck without removing the riveted in cross member. And its very difficult to flip the truck upside down anyway.

Harbor freight sells a stand that you can use to flip the motor.

well from monitoring it over the course of night and day im not positive its an oil leak. this pan has almost an rtv type coating on the majority of it or maybe its grease and i'm wondering if the pbblaster i sprayed didnt get down there and eat some of it and make it drip. i have a stand from harbor freight that my 6.9 is currently on and man it doesnt roll well or even turn that engine well so i have severe doubts about putting a powerstroke on it. have you used one or do you know of one that is made a little heavier?

Paint... They only come with paint.

Someone might have coated yours with something, but they are just painted from the factory.
