Rusted out oil pan on a 99
Hey guys i have done some research on the oil pan leaking issue and have a couple of rust pin holes oozing out my black gold. Any one know of a good place to get a decent deal on an oil pan? It looks like i can do it in the truck. Also is there a reason like spacing that I need to use an oil pan gasket? I have before on gas engines had good sucess with just siliconing stuff and it holding up and not leaking. Any input is great!

It can be done in the I've heard people doing it without having to lift the motor up but most people say they have to jack the motor a little bit in order to clear the crossmember because the pan can't drop down far enough to get it past the pick up tube. As for the pan gasket idk about everyone else here but if I was going to do all that work Id be putting a new gasket on too I would also put a little bit of good rtv is the corners of the pan I always use rtv in the corners of every pan gasket and never have a leak just my opinion tho

Your right regcabguy thats the best price I have seen on one. All the others I was finding were close to $200 or more. Is he a member on here or just buy it through the website? Has anyone got any suggestions to prevent this from happening again? I know the truck is over 10 years old but have read that even guys with third gen trucks are seeing this same issue. Thanks for the pointer and advice guys!!

I initially thought "wow, I've never had issues with oil pans rusting, why is it a problem with cummins."
Then I realized... my cummins trucks (big and small, one has a 14L or 855CID NHC-250) are the only vehicles I have that don't leak enough oil to keep the oil pan (and a good bit of the underside) coated in what I usually refer to "automatic rust protection."
