I didn't see any service bulletins posted on the site. Those usually aren't made available to the public. I don't think we can post them due to copyright. So, for those who didn't know:

In 1999 a service bulletin was issued making replacement of external transmission coolers with a brand new cooler mandatory whenever a torque converter replacement or rebuild is needed. The service bulletin was up-dated in 2003 to include all 6.0 liter coolers. You can't effectively flush contamination from the newer external OEM coolers or most aftermarket coolers. Any left over contamination will cause transmission damage and failure. The bulletin was issued due to repeat failures of fresh rebuilds from cooler contamination. The cooler passages are narrower by design to allow adequate air flow to the condensers needed to use R-134A refrigerant. And to still adequately cool the transmission at the same time.
The whole grille area on the 99 up Superduty was designed for the extra air flow R-134A needs to cool as good as R-12 refrigerant did.

97dieselnewb if it is new, then you did great and found something that was surplus or un-usable by someone else. Buying a used cooler is risky considering the cost of a rebuild vs. the cost of a new cooler. The 6.0 cooler swap into an 89-97 truck with air conditioning requires you mount it in front of the center cross member below the hood latch. It leaves about 1/4 of an inch clearance from the plastic in the grille opening. To put an inner cooler in with a 6.0 cooler in a 97-89 truck would need some cutting away of the plastic and metal behind your grille.
Most Hayden coolers use the rubber pads and plastic zip ties for mounting. We prefer using solid metal bracket mounting for coolers exposed to 70 mph winds out on the highway... They may offer an optional mounting kit if it is the zip tie type. Good luck.

No need to worry about flushing the cooler. Do the best you can, and install a magnifine filter after the cooler.

Guess it would be a waste of time to explain why that won't work.

Good luck and regards.

Please look at your cooler, lets make sure we are on the same page. The bulletin covers the Super Duty coolers with 7.3L and 6.0L Powerstroke diesels and applies to all coolers of the same design.

Your's is a 6.0L cooler I read in post #5. Please look at it and see if it has round tubing for the 31 fluid passages through the entire cooler. See if it is made of round tubing the same as steel cooler lines and steel brake lines surrounded by fins.

Maybe we just have a miscommunication.
Thanks.
