Default 97 7.3 motor problem

i have a 97 powerstroke and i was heading up the pass to the other valley and on my way back from the valley at the top of the pass it overheated and when i pulled over right away there was no coolant... i put water in it and when it cooled off i started it again and had a horrible rough idle then smoothed out... i think theres water in oil so im thinking head gasket? cracked block? head stud? any other suggestions and any help would be much appreciated thank you!

my best guess would be head gasket but really could be any of those but a stud breaking probly wouldnt be THAT bad. the other two.....eh maybe. it depends.

belts squealing huh? sounds like you got some fluid on them or a pulley is seized. if theres fluid see if you can see where its coming from. if not then take the belt off and try to turn each pulley by hand

for a 7.3? nah. got a cherry picker or a chain fall? rip that engine out. it aint a big deal. its a little harder if you have an automatic. its also easier if you can unbolt your cab and slide it back but you probably have a bed on there. mine's off and my cab is loose and i'm going through the process of switching engines now. not a big deal
