Default Question about rear differential on 96 PSD

Well about two weeks ago I bought my first diesel a 96 f250. When I bought it the guy told me that it has one ton running gear which is true because it is solid front axle. My gears started howlin the other day because of a leaky pinion seal but now I cant figure out how to check the fluid now. If someone could help me out that would be great.

the rear differential is the same on the 250s and 350s. there should be a plug about half way up on the cover that is removed with a 3/8th drive ratchet. fill so it just starts to run out.
