Default 1997 powerstroke question

hi, i'm looking at a 97 4door long bed dually it has 89,000 miles on it and i went to the dealer that had it and they said they sent it to have a sensor problem fixed. they didn't say what kind of sensor it was and was wondering what could be wrong with it and if i should buy it?

Is it just a used car dealer or a Ford dealer? If its a Ford dealer, then I personally would be a little worried that they sent a Ford truck off to get fixed. But I guess when it comes back, go test drive and check it over real good, ask them what was fixed, and if they noticed anything else wrong. There's a number of sensors that can go out on any vehicle but on PSDs, the cam position sensor I think, or the crank position sensor. One or the other, I forget exactly but I'm sure someone else will jump in and correct me.

There are two outstanding recalls right now on those trucks (all 7.3's)... The CPS (cam position sensor) and the cruise control relay...

both are minor and nothing to worry about.

If it is truely a 97 with 90k on it... ****** IT UP!!!

Cam position sensor. I don't know why I can never remember that.

89,000 miles is low for a diesel and not easy to find. Go look at it and test drive it after the sensor is replaced.

Heck yeah buy that truck!! I bought mine (1997 PS CC dually) at the local Ford dealer when I drove in the yard to buy a new truck, the original owner was taking the plate off of it as I parked. I asked if he was trading for a new one he said yes, I asked why, he told me because it had 94k miles and the drive train warranty was running out, needless to say I made a beeline for the sales desk. So glad I held off buying a new one until that day, saved me $25k and I never looked back in the 9 years since, I love it!

Don't let this truck get away if you like it. That engine is not even broke in yet and sound like a nice find don't know what you are going to do with but it makes a nice family truck. If you don't tell me the location and I will buy it for my wife.
