After that, a well tuned chip will open it up quite a bit.

Other weak points on the OBS trucks are the intake and exhaust. A tymar type intake is a great, cheap upgrade that flows all the air you would ever need.

Next would be at the min a 3" down pipe, if you wanted to do a full exhaust past that you can, but 70% of the gain on a OBS will be getting rid of the factory squashed pipe.

Full Exhaust can be had for about $300, Intake can be made for about $80, and a chip will run you about $350-$400

Just get BOost, Pyro, and tranny gauges...
then intake, exhaust and chip...

My bad, and thankyou...
p.s. gettin the 3" downpipe in can be very difficult, but well worth it...
On my truck it was hard to get the old one out and even harder to get the new one in...
I would recomment lettin an exhaust shop handle it...
But once I got mine out it was definately worth it!

Does it make a noticable difference putting a downpipe on them? I am looking for the same thing the OP is looking for. Not really looking for putting a chip or anything on it as it has 250k on it, but im just looking to give it a little extra boost.

This is a really dumb question, but im going to ask it anyways cause this is my first powerstroke, are the turbos really quiet? I never hear it spool up i have heard a few local guys talk about wastegates sticking open and not letting it build boost. Like i said im new to the powerstrokes so sorry for the dumb questions

If you look at a factory downpipe for the 94.5-97 trucks you can tell how restrictive it is...
If you put JUST a 3" downpipe on I would guess 10 more hp and a mpg better...
Which is a lot for one simple mod, but if you see the stock downpipe it will make you a believer

No wastegates on a OBS... And to be honest, I have never seen a Superduty wastegate "stick" open...

Most times its the EBPV (Exhaust Back Pressure Valve) that sticks closed, not allowing the turbo to build boost... But you will know when the EBPV sticks closed, you just can not go, will not go much above 1800 rpms.

And yes, the turbos are very quite.

The turbo will 'sing' better with an exhaust upgrade. Just replacing the downpipe allows the turbo to spool up faster; providing a nice whistle you can hear while driving.

I replaced my exhaust from the turbo back with a 3.5" downpipe and 4" exhaust and muffler. I kept the cat.

I had my buddy that works at a machine shop fab up an 45* elbow out of 4" aluminum pipe and went to Peterbilt and bought the 6637 filter everyone talks bout, but i bought the Baldwin brand cause Oreillys and Napa wanted $55+ for the 86637 or the 6637 and i got the Baldwin for $33, feels like it can breathe better. I bought a 4" MBRP TBE, should be here this week. Thinking about maybe unplugging the EBPV just to see if it helps any. But i am kinda thinking the thermostat is stuck open, cause i drove bout 40 miles today and the temp gauge didnt get above the "N" on Normal so..

Another question, what kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting with your 7.3s?
