Default Building my 97' 7.3L Stroker

Recently bought a 1997 Ford F350 Turbo diesel from my dad, It only has 140k miles and has never been run hard, only hard running was towing a heavy patio boat... But the truck has been treated well and is bone stock so it was a great buy for me! I am now investing in a cold air intake, 4 in exhaust (5 tip), and gauges, and a 6 position chip... Curious on people's of views of what i should do later... replace tranny soon (stock one is working flawlessly at the moment)?, new injectors?, turbo?..... who knows

well first off do a down pipe with gagues and exhaust like you have planned as well as a intake, you can get a 6637 filter from napa i beleve and make your own intake it pretty simple to do. after you have done those things get a custome tuned chip, DP, swamps ect. i personaly have swamps tunes and i love them. if your not happy with that power increses you are going to want to get a beefed up tranny, BTS makes great trannys, then do bigger injectors with a bigger turbo but before you do injectors upgrade your HPOP you could find 17* one used off of a superduty for about 150 bucks

HPOP is high pressure oil pump located in your engine valley, if your going with bigger injectors youll need to upgrade and ditch the little 15* to keep up the oil pressure to the injectors to avoid throwing a CEL.

be sure to get a 3" DP with that exhaust and definitely go with custom tunes, and after you get what you are mentioning I would move on to beefing up the trans next then do an Intercooler, then HPOP and move to some injectors, turbo and electric fuel system and depending on how big your going and how deep your pockets are youll have to start beefing up engine internals

Thanx for the info a lot dude... You seem to be the most helpful person on here for me so far... The exhaust I am getting is 4" DP to a 5" tip... and the custom tune is going to be done by "Jefferson State Diesel" so they know what there doing... truck should be doin great soon =) and If i sell my old truck soon I will be moving on to trans upgrades and an intercooler and so forth

i hope they know what they're doing. i have never heard of 'em either, but that don't mean they can't successfully tune your truck. most of us prefer to use Tony Wildman, Dp-Tuner, Power Hungry Performance, or swamps...

How much power were you looking for? to start off you need to shim your fuel pressure out to bring the fuel pressure to around 60-65 psi before you start doing a lot of fuel system mods. also check your FPR screen and make sure its clean. these are things to ensure you get all the fuel you can use and typically the stock fuel pressure is around 50 psi when IH calls for 60-65 psi and usually nobody cleans their FPR screens b/c they don't know about them and they end up clogged up and give you poor throttle response. also you can bend the tab back on your throttle pedal that works the IVS(idle validation sensor). just bend it out until the IVS clicks as soon as you touch the pedal, but dont go too far or the IVS won't reset when you let of the pedal. this will give you better throttle response as well. get all your supporting mods done before you step up to injectors.

get those mods done that i listed above and also do the 6637 intake instead of buying an aftermarket system. much cheaper and flows better. get the filter from Wix filters - oil filters, biodiesel filters, air filters, and fuel filters from FleetFilter! and use a short 4" piece of exhaust pipe with a 45* bend in it to connect it to your intake. so now you have fuel pressure, air in and out.. get ya a tru cool tranny cooler or 6.0 cooler, and built tranny from BTS or John Wood, then the injectors is all going to depend on how much power you want
