Default How to Roll Coal

Hey Everyone,
My friend and I were having a debate about "rolling" coal the other day. I personally hate guys who do it because I feel like it puts a bad out a bad rep for all of us diesel owners who use them for what they really are, not just to show off. Well this question isn't how to make your truck smoke in terms of mods, it's how to actually physically do it. My truck has only ever smoked a little when I'm pulling a heavy load and lugging. I drive a 5 speed by the way. So I told him I think it's only done by lugging. He says the opposite, that people smoke the most at high RPM's.
I was just curious who was right? I always thought that at higher RPM's the turbo spooled and got rid of the smoke. I figured that if I tried to start out of third gear and was flooring it that that would be how to physically make it smoke.
Thanks for any input.

Smoke equals lots of fuel with little to no air or not enough air. It can be through out the fuel curve.

Sweet! Thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for. I knew that the more throttle you give it the more fuel you're injecting into the cylinder, which is why I figured it'd be at a lower RPM when the turbo isn't sucking in a ton of air to clean it up. Thanks for the info!

If you actually read my initial post, I said I hate people who do that. So before you throw out accusations accusing me of wanting to be one of those douche bag "bro" type guys in their street queens, I'd suggest reading the whole post first. I asked solely for informational sake, to tell my friend I was right.

smoke is just raw partially burnt fuel. more air = less smoke... put a chip on her and then lug it, thats how to turn the most fuel into black smoke

edge will make it roll for as long as youd like, i had it on my truck and took it off because at half throttle i started rolling but it seemed to do it more at high rpm and barely did it at low
