Default Trouble with braking

Well I was driving my truck back from lunch today and my brake pedal got really stiff and i had to put a decent amount of pressure on it to get it to stop. I also noticed lately that sometimes my abs light stays on for longer than normal and also sometimes coming to a stop my rear brakes would lock up. Not sure if the second part is really part of my problems but i dunno. Any ideas what it could be?

My guess is the vacuum pump brake booster is toast. I have changed two of them on my 1997. With a pulley removal kit from Harbor Freight it was a 1 beer job.

x2 When the vacuum pump goes, it gets tough to stop. I had the pump bearings seize on me in rush hour traffic. Not fun. I ended up with manual brakes for a bit... I got to a parking lot safely where I could swap it out. Thank God I had my tools in the truck. Not a fun job with no shade and temps over 95 at 9am.

i had the same problem on my 2001 dodge 2500.. coming to a stop and brake pedal jumped my foot off of it, and got extremely stiff. had to stand on it to come to a stop. i was told it was my vacuum booster or hydro booster, whichever one i had. i replaced my abs sensor which i knew was bad, and havent had the problem since. i doubt we're in the same boat here, just saying what fixed mine.

(as of right now its fixed, i hope the problem doesnt come back)

A good test would be to lift the serpentine belt off and see if the pump is locked up. There is also a vacuum tube that attaches to this pump. IIRC
